Programme Overview

The Sports Talent Scout Programme is a proposed competency-based pathway preparing professionals to observe, identify and assess promising athletes, compare evidence against sport-specific and age-appropriate criteria, and submit structured recommendations to authorised sports directors, coaches and talent-development departments.

Role and Professional Boundaries

A talent scout gathers and interprets observations and makes recommendations; the scout does not replace coaches, sports directors, licensed player agents or medical specialists. Scouting alone does not authorise representation, contract negotiation, player transfers or medical diagnosis. Safeguarding and lawful permission govern all activities involving minors or personal data.

Target Audience

Prospective scouts, club and federation staff, academy personnel, coaches, athlete-development officers and performance analysts seeking a professional framework for talent identification.

• Design inclusive scouting plans covering relevant ages, regions, competitions and access to opportunity.

Learning and Assessment

Professional case studies, authorised video and match observation, repeated assessment exercises, structured scouting reports, simulated discussions with technical departments and a practical portfolio. Ethical data practices and safeguarding are integral to assessment.

Integrated Professional Project

Prepare a scouting portfolio for a selected sport, including a coverage plan, sport- and age-specific criteria, anonymised or appropriately consented observation dossiers, comparative evaluation, reasoned recommendations, uncertainty limits and a follow-up framework.

Professional Outcome

Competency to perform observation, structured assessment and reporting within a sports organisation, subject to appointment, delegation and applicable rules.
